The lightweight semi-trailers of the "BERGERecotrail" brand are among the lightest vehicles on the market and are especially in demand for transports with high payloads. Now, the proven "ecoCHAMP" has been further developed: The new "ecoCHAMP LTO" features a shortened wheelbase, enabling a higher payload without excessively burdening the drive axle of the tractor unit. According to the manufacturer, the increased payload can reduce the number of trips by up to ten percent. It is also particularly suitable for use with electrically powered tractor units (E-tractors).
Efficient Lightweight Construction to Reduce CO2 Emissions
A high load capacity with low self-weight is a central requirement for modern commercial vehicles. Lightweight trailers optimize payload and can enable higher loads, improving sustainability and reducing CO2 emissions. In practice, this can lead to fewer trips with the same transport volume.
However, in everyday transport, there can be an overload on the drive axle, especially with heavier electric tractors. To minimize this issue, the position of the three axles was adjusted in the "ecoCHAMP LTO" and the wheelbase was shortened in compliance with the BO power circle. This relieves the drive axle of the tractor unit and avoids overloading. This is particularly important at maximum payload, such as when transporting beverages and wood loads and when using electric tractors.
Lightweight Construction with Reuleaux Triangle Technology
The "ecoCHAMP LTO" has a reduced tare weight of 1.5 tons. Like all "BERGERecotrail" vehicles, it is based on a special lightweight construction using Reuleaux triangle technology. According to the manufacturer, this allows for a reduction in material in the main beam without compromising strength and stability. The reduced tare weight contributes to an increased payload capacity.
The design of the "ecoCHAMP LTO" is certified for the transport of beverages (including single-layer beverage crates on pallets and keg goods) as well as general cargo according to DIN EN 12642 Code XL, DIN EN 12195-1 and VDI 2700. Form-fitted loading allows for reduced loading and unloading times.
Optional "POWER CURTAIN" Structure for Additional Safety
Optionally, the "ecoCHAMP LTO" can be equipped with the "POWER CURTAIN" structure from Schmitz Cargobull. This provides certified structural strength according to DIN EN 12642 Code XL, without the need for additional side boards. Vertical and horizontal reinforcements, as well as a standard anti-theft mesh, ensure high cargo security.
Since the beginning of 2024, the lightweight trailers from "BERGERecotrail" are available through the Schmitz Cargobull sales network. Customers benefit from Europe-wide spare parts supply in the Schmitz Cargobull Service Partner Network as well as additional services such as financing, insurance, and the standard equipment with the telematics system "TrailerConnect". This technology provides real-time information on the vehicle's condition and includes a tire pressure monitoring system with autolocation function.
