Whether prescription medical devices or sensitive cosmetics - the demanding logistics in the pharma and healthcare sector follow strict rules. In addition to the needs-based, temperature-controlled storage of sensitive products between 2 and 25 °C, the topics of transparency, safety, and time management also play a major role. Failures in the medical sector can endanger lives. To ensure the secure and GDP-compliant implementation of daily logistics processes, MSK relies on a holistic logistics solution for a seamless, verifiable GDP supply chain.
In addition to a pallet rack for 17,000 storage spaces, which is served by a powerful lithium-ion industrial truck fleet, two tray lifts take over the dynamic, automated small parts transport up to ten meters high. This optimally utilizes the newly created storage capacity. Versatile shelf constructions from multi-place to flow-through to shelving racks offer maximum flexibility in project execution. The “Jungheinrich Logistics Interface” acts as a smart interface between processes and machines. It enables maximum transparent warehouse processes through real-time inventory transmission and simultaneously increases process security and efficiency.
Premiere for the AMR "arculee S"
The new MSK warehouse in Bensheim is unique not only because it is not completely rectangular, which had to be taken into account when planning and implementing the logistics solution. It also houses the first autonomous mobile robot at MSK. The "arculee S" from Jungheinrich is a first step towards automation for the pharmaceutical logistics company. In the packaging area, it will actively assist in processing picked goods, thereby minimizing downtime and travel times of the industrial trucks. The architecturally unique bend of the logistics center is used as a space-saving picking area.
MSK stands for family cohesion. M for Marion, S for Simon, and K for Klaus-Dieter - as a medium-sized company from the Rhine-Main-Neckar metropolitan region, regional projects and proximity to customers and business partners are particularly important to the managing family Hess. How fortunate that the Jungheinrich branch is only about 1 km away as the crow flies.
"In every expansion phase, Jungheinrich has optimally supported us with tailored intralogistics solutions," says Managing Director Simon Hess. "The next new warehouse is already in planning and our choice is already clear: We will also implement this together with Jungheinrich."
MSK has chosen to deploy its first autonomous mobile robot in its new warehouse. The "arculee S" from Jungheinrich is supposed to support the pharmaceutical logistician in the packaging area by processing picked goods, thereby minimizing idle times and travel times of the industrial trucks.
In conversation: Simon Hess, Managing Director of MSK Pharmalogistic GmbH
How would you describe the current project and the collaboration with Jungheinrich?
Jungheinrich has been with us since the beginning of time, meaning we have been working with the logistics service provider since our company's founding. During the tender for our new logistics center in Bensheim, which we commissioned in 2023, our choice fell once again on Jungheinrich. Both the concept and the pricing structure convinced us immediately. We are very happy that our existing intralogistics partner will continue to accompany us in the future. At the Bensheim site, Jungheinrich supported us with pallet racks for about 17,000 storage spaces, vertical lift modules for automated small parts picking, software, and of course, industrial trucks.
The delivery also included an autonomous mobile robot of the "arculee S" type - what are your experiences with the AMR?
The AMR "arculee" was presented to us at LogiMAT and immediately impressed us. Since our volume is currently still too low for large-scale automation, the mobile helper is the perfect alternative to quickly respond to changing requirements. The "arculee" is currently still in the test phase with us. Its area of responsibility will be the processing of picked goods in the packaging area. The practical thing: If we need quick automated support in another warehouse, we can simply carry it under our arm and deploy it elsewhere. This makes us extremely flexible. The acquisition of the AMR allowed us to dispense with the originally planned conveyor technology.
To what extent do you benefit from the regional proximity to Jungheinrich and are you satisfied with the services?
As the crow flies, we are less than 1 km from Jungheinrich. This is very advantageous for us. We know each other personally and work together on exciting regional projects. As a medium-sized company, Jungheinrich always treats us as equals. Especially in the pharmaceutical sector, we cannot afford failures, as it involves medical products and ultimately human lives. That is why it is of utmost priority for us to always have a contact person at a short distance who guarantees smooth logistics operations. We are very satisfied with the prompt response of Jungheinrich's services and can definitely recommend the collaboration.
