The Kia Corporation has unveiled the design of the new PV5 Passenger and PV5 Cargo models ahead of the Kia EV Day 2025 on February 24 in Tarragona, Spain. The design shows a significantly smoothened and "normalized" form compared to the concept studies, yet it sets completely new stylistic accents as it features an entirely fully electric modular architecture in this segment for the first time, rather than the currently common multi-drive platform. Nevertheless, the PV5 adopts many design cues from the Concept PV5, which was showcased at events like the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in 2024 and the IAA Transportation in September 2024. It is the first production model as part of the new global "Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV)" business strategy.

The Koreans state that they aim to "redefine the concepts of space and mobility," thereby taking the lead within the Hyundai group in the booming segment of light commercial vehicles. The PV5 utilizes the brand's proven EV technology and is intended to meet the diverse needs of a broad range of customers. The modularity of the base is expected to offer a high degree of flexibility and customization. The vehicle will thus come in several configurations, alongside the Passenger and Cargo models, with additional versions, such as variants adapted for specific purposes, to be presented at the EV Day 2025. The dedicated EV design is expected to distinguish the model from traditional light commercial vehicles.

"All variants embody the same consistent design values, inspired by Kia's design philosophy 'Opposites United'," says Karim Habib, the brand's chief designer.

Kia PV5 Passenger: Geometric silhouette, large window areas, robust rear

The elegant geometric profile of the PV5 Passenger is designed to emphasize its contemporary appearance. The low shoulder line allows for large window areas, providing occupants with excellent visibility. The black, graphic window trims create a contrast to the body color. The equally black, geometric wheel arch covers and side skirts lend an off-road character to the appearance, similar to Kia SUVs. The signature and black accents of the front lighting are intended to enhance the modern aura of the PV5, while the parting line in the profile reinforces the geometric silhouette and contributes to the powerful aesthetics, as described by Kia design. The functionally and logically appearing rear is also meant to highlight the robust, modern character of the PBV. The elegantly sloped D-pillar line reinforces the impression of a voluminous vehicle. The tailgate of the Passenger model is one-piece and opens upwards. Below the tailgate, the rear bumper echoes the protective corners of the front bumper.

Kia PV5 Cargo: Modern Aesthetics, Ample Space, Convenient Access

While the PV5 Cargo shows the same geometric design in the side view as the passenger variant, it has a more boxy profile that indicates maximized space efficiency. With a modern aesthetic and a clear arrangement of each element, the cargo model is intended to differ from conventional light commercial vehicles. The most significant difference from the PV5 Passenger is the rear door with two wings that open sideways. This is meant to provide better functionality and easy access for loading and unloading, making the cargo space adaptable to individual needs. The rear design complements the clear lines of the side view and is intended to provide a solid and modern appearance. This approach has increased the cargo capacity and created a more spacious interior.
