The DHL 2-Mann-Handling GmbH is expanding its e-fleet in March for low-emission delivery of large and bulky goods on the last mile in parts of Germany. A total of 21 new e-transporters of the type Maxus eDeliver 9 by the Chinese SAIC commercial vehicle subsidiary will be deployed in Lower Saxony, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Berlin, Bavaria, and Baden-Württemberg.
Bulky goods follow mail and parcel
The gradual shift to e-mobility at the DHL subsidiary is part of the company's sustainability program, currently employing around 32,400 e-vehicles at Deutsche Post and DHL for mail and parcel delivery. More than 50% of the delivery routes in the Post & Parcel Germany business area have already been converted to electric drive – and now the conversion of the fleet for the delivery of large and bulky goods is also starting.
Beate Seeher, Managing Director of DHL 2-Mann-Handling GmbH and responsible for sustainability, says: "With the deployment of e-vehicles for last-mile delivery, we are taking an important step. We can now increasingly deliver large and bulky items such as furniture, washing machines, or TVs to the end customer with reduced emissions."
Each e-vehicle saves about 20.4 t CO2e emissions (according to "Well-to-Wheel" analysis) and 6,400 liters of diesel per year compared to a combustion engine of its category.
Resorting to Certified Services
Shippers have the option to enhance the delivery with the GoGreen or GoGreen Plus shipping services. Through the compensation of CO2e emissions via global climate protection projects (GoGreen) or the direct reduction of emissions through reduction measures within the national DHL network (GoGreen Plus), customers can resort to certified services, as is customary with the group's parcel and mail products.
