With a sustainable reusable system, Fiege and the Schoeller Group aim to establish more environmentally friendly packaging and shipping offers in online retail. As the logistics company has announced, the partners, together with former Esprit manager Leif Erichson and serial founder Elias Kuby, have founded the joint venture Multiloop. The goal is to make reusable shipping packaging for e-commerce marketable and thus contribute to the reduction of packaging waste and CO2 emissions.
The focus is on a reusable box made of recyclable, water-repellent polypropylene. According to the information, it replaces on average 30 single-use cartons and saves up to 86 percent CO2. At the end of its life cycle, the box is recycled and used to produce new
packaging. The focus is on a sustainable, circular solution that can be implemented on a large scale.
"Our motto is Re-Use before Recycling – simple, affordable, mass-market," explains Leif Erichson, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Multiloop.
End customers only pay a deposit on shipping, which is fully refunded upon return. A dense network of 15,000 planned return points in supermarkets, gas stations, and kiosks should make returns as easy as possible. For online retailers, the concept means little effort, assures Fiege, as the boxes are optimized for logistics and can be easily integrated into existing processes. Multiloop relies on a usage-based payment model that should also allow smaller providers access.
Elias Kuby, co-founder and managing director of Multiloop,
emphasizes the strength of the partnerships:
"Multiloop combines the best of both worlds. The Schoeller Group brings over 60 years of experience in the development of reusable systems, while Fiege has comprehensive know-how in e-commerce logistics and the last mile. We want to use this combination to build Multiloop into the European market leader for reusable shipping packaging in the long term."
Fiege sees the project as a logical further development of its sustainability strategy. Jens Fiege, co-CEO of the fifth-generation family business, points to the growing demand for ecological solutions in online retail:
"Awareness of sustainability is growing in our society. Especially in e-commerce, more and more end customers are demanding alternative packaging and shipping offers. With
Multiloop, we have developed a solution that truly makes e-commerce more sustainable and resource-efficient - and at the same time accessible to everyone."
The Schoeller Group also sees great potential. Martin Schoeller, Co-Chairman of the company, announces that the return network will be continuously expanded in collaboration with partners:
"Greater sustainability succeeds best together. We look forward to writing a sustainable success story with Multiloop."
Multiloop wants to show that sustainable packaging solutions in online retail are no longer a niche topic. With a practical return system, a modular business model, and the combined experience of strong partners, the joint venture aims to establish an economically viable alternative to single-use cartons - with an eye on scalability, environmental
