After the federal election, the Federal Association of Parcel and Express Logistics (BPEX) made an appeal to the future political leadership:
"It is high time to understand the economy and labor as an inseparable unit and to sustainably reduce bureaucratic burdens."
In parallel, the association today published a position paper (see our attachment), summarizing its demands for the coalition negotiations and future policy in Germany.
Important Economic Sector
With an annual shipment volume of around 4.2 billion parcels, revenues of over 26 billion euros per year, and approximately 260,000 employees, the parcel sector is one of the most efficient economic sectors in Germany. According to BPEX, the current challenges posed by economic uncertainties, high energy prices, rising costs, and labor shortages directly affect parcel industry companies.
Comprehensive Economic and Labor Market Policy
The policy must create conditions that ensure both entrepreneurial freedom and social security, explains the association. Fair competition instead of excessive regulations is the key to providing forward-looking perspectives for companies and employees alike. It is important not to play consumer interests against employee concerns when it comes to improving economic and working conditions. Therefore, BPEX proposes a joint ministry for economics and labor.
Consistent Reduction of Bureaucracy
According to the association, unnecessary prohibitions and bureaucratic hurdles hinder progress. The administrative burden must be reduced, and politicians must now provide a perspective without overburdening the economy and consumers. Political measures and goals must be oriented towards the realities of people's lives. Delivery by parcel services is an indispensable supply option for many people and companies – both in the city and in the countryside.
“The formation of a coalition must now happen quickly so that the problems in Germany can finally be tackled,” said BPEX Chairman Marten Bosselmann. “The parcel services are part of daily life. With clear, practical measures, such as an unbureaucratic postal law, politics can create the conditions that strengthen our industry.”
