In the trade dispute with US President Donald Trump, the Chinese Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong has suspended the shipment of goods to the United States. The United States is unreasonable, harasses, and abusively uses tariffs, the Hongkong Post announced on April 16. The post office will not impose tariffs on behalf of the United States and will suspend the acceptance of shipments destined for the US, it further stated.
Hongkong justified the measure by stating that Washington had previously announced the abolition of the duty-free de minimis rule for mail shipments from Hongkong to the USA and the increase of duties for mail shipments with goods to the USA from May 2. Shipments by land and sea would be suspended immediately. Air freight would no longer be accepted from April 27.
For shipping goods to the USA, Hongkongers should expect very high fees, it was further stated. Postal shipments containing only documents but no goods are not affected.
