In the Bavarian municipality of Dillingen, the groundbreaking ceremony for a shuttle warehouse for the home appliance specialist BSH Hausgeräte GmbH recently took place. By spring 2027, TGW Logistics is constructing a highly automated small parts warehouse that aims to supply production reliably and quickly with components, according to a press release from the intralogistics provider dated April 15. More than 50 shuttle robots are to ensure that the required components reach the assembly workstations at the right time.

BSH Hausgeräte GmbH stands for a portfolio of world-renowned home appliance brands, including Bosch, Siemens, Gaggenau, and Neff. The company employs 60,000 people and achieved a revenue of 14.8 billion euros in 2023. About 1.9 million dishwashers were produced at the Dillingen plant in 2024: According to TGW Logistics, the site, founded in 1960, is one of the largest and most modern dishwasher factories.

In the course of a revised factory layout, the material flow is also being redesigned to make it faster and more efficient. An automated shuttle system plays a central role as a buffer for production supply. More than 50 shuttle robots handle the storage and retrieval of components. This allows workstations to be supplied just-in-time with the required components. Furthermore, the concept relies on a forklift-free environment in final assembly – paving the way for the use of automated guided vehicles (AGV).

"Automation combined with optimal space utilization through five-deep storage in the shuttle enables high efficiency," said Johann Steinkellner, CEO Customer Unit Central Europe at TGW Logistics. "We are very pleased that we were able to convince BSH with our concept."

It is already the second collaboration at the Dillingen site for TGW Logistics, and they are confident that more will follow.
