Il Visone, a company within the Agricooper Group specializing in the cultivation and supply of fresh grapes, has entered into a partnership with Tosca. This is reported by the provider of reusable containers in a press release. The aim of the collaboration for Il Visone is to address operational challenges, maintain product quality during harvest and storage, and achieve sustainability goals.
Single-use solutions and lightweight plastic packaging inefficient
Maintaining the quality and freshness of grapes from the field to the market requires precision and care. Il Visone encountered significant problems with conventional storage and transport materials. Cardboard packaging and lightweight plastic containers often could not withstand the stresses in refrigerated rooms—they buckled and thus endangered the integrity of the grapes. Inconsistent packaging solutions also frequently led to collapsing pallets, which not only brought inefficiencies and safety risks but also caused unnecessary waste. Additionally, bulky, non-collapsible boxes consumed time and resources and limited logistical capacity.
Tosca has developed a solution for Il Visone to tackle the company’s central challenges while simultaneously enhancing the performance of the entire supply chain, according to the company. Tosca's reusable, collapsible plastic crates offer an adequate solution for the storage and transportation of grapes. With perforated holes for better air circulation, the crates ensure consistent freshness in cooling rooms and keep the grapes fresh from August to November, according to the provider.
Their robust, stackable design increases the stability of the pallets, reduces the risk of collapse, and ensures safer and more reliable storage. Another advantage of the collapsible crates is improved storage and more efficient transport. According to Tosca, Il Visone can now move more crates per trip, thereby reducing logistics costs and the ecological footprint.
Minimizing transport effort
The switch to Tosca crates has not only increased logistical efficiency but also optimized the entire operational process. The collapsible crates minimize the transport effort between fields and packing houses, saving time and reducing emissions, according to Tosca. Additionally, the design of the crates allows for easy storage of empty containers, thus increasing workflow efficiency. Tosca claims it has also branded the crates with Il Visone, enhancing visibility and traceability within the supply chain while promoting brand awareness.
