Generative artificial intelligence (AI), which creates different types of content, offers companies promising opportunities to improve their logistics processes — or so the theory goes. But what does it look like in practice? A survey conducted in 2024 by the trade journal LOGISTIK HEUTE and the Aachen-based software provider Inform among 130 specialists and executives shows a great interest in generative AI: 48 percent are interested despite potential risks. Curious, 23 percent are waiting for further developments, while 18 percent are enthusiastic about the possibilities of generative AI and see great potential. However, only 16 percent of the surveyed companies are already using generative AI in their logistics processes.
Due to its potential, the LOGISTIK HEUTE special issue "Software in Logistics 2025" also focuses on generative AI: The fact that generative AI can independently create new solutions or predictions makes it interesting, for example, for various applications in transport logistics.
GenAI systems are capable of processing data from various sources in real time and deriving recommendations for action from it, for example for the transport network. The second main topic focuses on resilience and, among other things, how companies can develop AI-based resilience measurement for supply chain management.
The special issue also includes technical articles on other interesting topics from logistics IT: It covers areas such as AutoID, ERP solutions, supply chain management systems, software for transport management, and warehouse management systems. In the "Best Practice" section, examples from practice are presented, showing how companies overcome their challenges in logistics and supply chain management with the help of software solutions.
The LOGISTIK HEUTE special issue "Software in Logistics 2025," which was published on February 19, was created in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. On a total of 124 pages, the special issue designed according to the guidebook concept includes not only texts and photos but also useful overviews and checklists.
