The Nagel-Group continues to invest in electromobility and will expand its fleet by a total of 20 new electric semi-trailer trucks in 2025. The company, based in Versmold, announced this in a press release. Accordingly, the Nagel Group has acquired six Volvo "FH Aero Electric" and 14 Mercedes-Benz "eActros 600". The vehicles, with a range of approximately 300 to 500 kilometers, will be used for food transportation in regional and long-distance traffic.

"We have already been using our first electric semi-trailer trucks since 2022. With the new vehicles, we want to integrate more electric trucks as replacements for conventional diesel vehicles into our transportation network," explains Carsten Taucke, CEO of the Nagel-Group.

The expansion of the electric fleet will take place in several stages throughout the year 2025: The first electric semi-trucks were already put into operation in March, with further deliveries following in the second quarter and at the end of the year. The aim of the Nagel-Group is to continue increasing the share of low-emission vehicles in order to achieve the ambitious goals for reducing CO₂ emissions.

New Trucks for Hamburg, Bochum, and Borgholzhausen

Six new electric semi-trucks from the Volvo brand are expanding the fleet at the Bochum, Borgholzhausen, and Hamburg locations. The new design of the Volvo FH Aero Electric ensures higher energy efficiency and optimized electricity consumption. With a range of approximately 300 kilometers per battery charge and an expected annual mileage of around 150,000 kilometers, the vehicles are primarily to be used in regional transport.

Additionally, according to the Nagel-Group, a total of 14 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric tractor units will be delivered to the Nagel-Group in 2025. According to the manufacturer, the model has a range of 500 kilometers per battery charge and is set to be deployed at the locations in Borgholzhausen, Hamburg, Bochum, Gotha, and Groß-Gerau.

Less noise and vibration

Besides being environmentally friendly, the electric tractor units offer an improved driving experience: less noise, no vibrations, and a pleasant driving style are expected to make the workday more comfortable for the professional drivers.

"After driving the first few kilometers, many drivers’ attitudes toward electromobility have fundamentally changed. Driving an electric truck is a completely new experience – quiet, powerful, and more relaxed," reports Stefan Mörchel, driver and fleet manager of the Nagel-Group at the Bochum location.

To ensure the smooth operation of the electric semitrailer trucks, the Nagel-Group is not only investing in the vehicles themselves but also specifically in expanding the charging infrastructure. In recent months, fast-charging stations with a total of twelve charging points have been established at four locations, where the new electric trucks can be charged with up to 400 kW. The power supply is supported by photovoltaic systems on the roofs of the locations and an intelligent charging and load management system. For example, according to their own statements, the Nagel-Group operates the largest rooftop photovoltaic system in the Ruhr area at the Bochum location and will be putting a powerful battery storage into operation in 2025. The self-generated electricity will then not only supply various electric vehicles but also the cooling systems.
