The DHL Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese e-commerce marketplace Temu to deepen cooperation and further expand the partnership. The agreement aims to better support local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in established markets as well as in growth markets such as Eastern Europe and the Middle East, according to a press release from the DHL Group dated April 4. Both parties are committed to promoting compliant trade and sustainable practices.
The DHL Group will support Temu with its logistics expertise, including multimodal transport solutions, to offer more efficient and sustainable supply chain services. With their extensive network and global presence, "DHL Group is the ideal partner" to support Temu's growth in both established and new markets, writes DHL in the release.
"Through our different DHL business divisions, we already offer a wide range of logistics services and solutions, including air freight and last-mile delivery," said Katja Busch, CCO and Head of DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation. "We are excited to take our partnership with Temu to the next level."
By combining their logistics capabilities with Temu's innovative platform, they could create more efficient, compliant, and convenient solutions that would benefit both consumers and local businesses in the markets they serve.
As part of the memorandum of understanding, DHL Group will utilize its logistics expertise to support Temu's activities in Europe, including the Local-to-Local model, which enables local goods partners to sell through the platform and supports local processing. Temu anticipates that up to 80 percent of its total sales in Europe could be achieved through this Local-to-Local model. Additionally, the e-commerce platform is designed to enable sellers based in Europe to reach global markets in the future. This approach is intended to allow SMEs in particular to scale and expand their businesses. DHL will also support Temu in expanding its presence in international e-commerce markets, including the regions of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).
"This letter of intent represents an important step in our partnership with DHL Group," said Qin Sun, co-founder of Temu. "The extensive network and logistical capabilities of the DHL Group will help us improve consumer access to affordable products and increase growth opportunities for sellers."
