The logistics service provider LahrLogistics GmbH, a subsidiary of Fenaco Bern (CH), operates a logistics center in Lahr (DE), specializing in the home and garden range. From here, goods are delivered daily to Landi brand stores in Switzerland as well as ZG Raiffeisen markets in Germany. In light of a planned doubling of the storage volume and increasing complexity, the company decided on comprehensive digitalization and automation of its processes.

However, this also required a cultural shift at LahrLogistics. So far, the company had relied on manual communication and Excel spreadsheets.

“The biggest challenge was winning the employees over to the new way of working,” says Daniel Thomann, Managing Director of LahrLogistics.

The service provider decided to implement the TradeLink platform, which is intended to enable digital and transparent communication with suppliers. Change management played a central role in this. Through clear communication and internal training, it was possible to gradually introduce employees to the new processes. Suppliers were also involved early on, which made the transition easier, according to a press release from TradeLink. The intuitive and free use of the platform for suppliers proved to be a decisive advantage.

"Initially, the idea of managing without Excel and phone was unfamiliar to many," reports Thomann. "But through training and clear communication, the team quickly realized the benefits of the new system."

The introduction of the digital platform has improved the workflow at LahrLogistics as follows:

  • 100 percent digital truck scheduling: All deliveries are now scheduled digitally via TradeLink, reducing communication overhead.
  • 80 percent fewer internal disruptions: The number of clarification calls decreased from five to six daily to five weekly.
  • Optimized personnel planning: Automation and more efficient processes have allowed for the avoidance of new hires.
  • Shorter waiting times: Real-time communication allows for quick responses to delays, nearly eliminating downtimes of up to 30 minutes.

"With digitization, we have created a calm, transparent, and efficient logistics process that positions us for further growth," concludes Thomann.
