Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing described the performance of his former party as bitter. What the FDP had done regarding the end of the traffic light coalition at the federal level had not paid off, said the non-partisan politician to SWR. After the breakdown of the three-party coalition at the federal level, Wissing remained part of the government and left the FDP.

“The election result is no surprise,” Wissing told the broadcaster. The polarized election campaign of recent weeks is now making it more difficult to form a government. It is known what many would exclude. However, the question of how a government can be formed remains open.

“Now many must jump over their own shadows.”

It is clear that even a new federal government will be dependent on compromises.
